Caring for your peaches:
After you look forward to yummy Colorado peaches, you don't want to do something that diminishes their quality or causes them to spoil or get "mushy." Check out these tips to protect your peaches:
Store your peaches in one of two ways:
If you plan to store your peaches at room temperature, make sure that you open the top of the box. Leaving the box closed can cause the peaches to quickly mold!
If you plan to store them in a refrigerator, make sure that it is very cool--between 32 and 35 degrees. Storing your peaches at a temperature over 35 degrees can initiate a process that opens the pores of the peaches and leaches the moisture out! This causes "mealy" or "mushy" peaches. And, just because you are storing your peaches in a refrigerator at 35 degrees doesn't mean that you don't need to keep the flaps open. Closed flaps on boxes in the refrigerator can initiate molding, too!
